Scorpion homing

Recently, undergraduate Honors student Jay Vinnedge, completed his thesis on the light enduced hiding behavior in the desert grassland scorpion, Smeringerus mesaensis, formally Paruroctonus mesaensis.

Scorpion light sensitivity

Jacob Mitchell investigated the time spent near LED light sources in the UV, green and blue electromagnetic spectrum versus time spent in a “no light” control. He found signficant differences in time spent near the LED source during the first 5 minutes after the scorpion was introduced to the light between green and control light conditions.
